Islamic Studies Camp Report

Hello there blog! Oh how i've missed you! I've not been blogging for a while now as I was so caught up in preparing for my finals last month. Classes for the new semester just started last Friday and I will probably go on another hiatus since I have about 3 months to prepare and submit my OBU research project. Anyway, I think I should serve some justice to my blog for abandoning it. So lets get on with it! I was browsing through the list of documents in my e-mail account that I've sent or received throughout the years and I stumbled upon one dated in 2009 entitled "ISLAMIC STUDIES REPORT". It was the report we were assigned to for our Islamic Studies class. We had to prepare a report (more of like a journal) depicting our experience throughout the Islamic Studies Camp held in FRIM. This is what I wrote...

ps: It's going to be a VERY LENGTHY post! Please excuse my literature :P

20th March 2009 (FRIDAY)
The day started with me having to sit for my T8-Audit PT2. My friends and I had to leave the examination hall early as we were told that the bus that was taking us to FRIM would leave at 5pm. As I left the examination hall, I could feel a rush of excitement as I have been looking forward for this camp for weeks! All camp participants had to gather at the foyer before departing. We departed from Sunway University College at around 5.30pm. I slept throughout the journey to FRIM as I was dead tired from studying audit the night before.
We reached our camp site at around 7.30pm and had our dinner straight away.  There weren’t many tables and chairs around so my friends and I had to sit cross-legged on the floor and ate our dinner with our hands as the plastic cutleries provided were very flimsy. It felt awkward at first but it was kind of fun because it felt as though we were in some village far far away from civilisation! Haha! After filling our empty stomach with the scrumptious meal (p.s: everything tastes good when you’re hungry!), we then performed our Maghrib prayers. After performing our prayers, the girls and the guys then proceeded to their respective camp sites to set up their tents. It was my first time ever to camp under the stars! It was so exciting!

We then performed our Isyak prayers and gathered at a spot for our next activity which was the night walk. We were divided into two groups and a ranger was assigned to each group. I was in the first group so we went in the forest first followed by the second group. The ranger brought us deep into the forest...we walked in total darkness as we were not allowed to bring our torchlight with us. As we walked, the ranger would stop us at one point to give us a brief talk on some trees and plants. We were told to be attentive to the ranger’s explanation as the information would be essential for the activity that we were going to do the following day. The night walk was kind of tiring as we had to walk for about 2.5km which took us about 2 and half hours! But all in all, the night walk was awesome!

The night wasn’t over yet...all of us had to gather at the “pondok”. The AJK had to re-group other groups besides group 5 and 7 because most members from the other groups couldn’t make it to the camp. Group 5 and 7 ROCK! We have team spirit! Yayy! Group 5 was renamed to Group 1 whereas Group 7 was renamed as Group 2 and the list goes on. After sorting the rest of the participants into their respective groups, we were then given the task to create our team’s logo, flag and also cheer. While we were all busy preparing our team’s logo and flag, the AJKs distributed files and name tags to all participants. They also gave each participant a biscuit (to be kept behind the name tag) that has to be taken good care of. The biscuit had to be treated as though it was some precious jewel! Marks would be deducted if the participants were to break or destroy their biscuit even if by accident.
It was about 12pm and they told us to stop drawing, etc and go to sleep. For some reason, Shahira and I couldn’t sleep so we went down to the campfire site to laze around while Atira went straight to sleep as she was already pooped out.

Shahira and I didn’t stay out that long because it was about to rain. As soon as we got back to our tent, it started to rain. I couldn’t sleep because it was raining outside and we had to cover every airway of the tent...I needed air! OXYGEN! The tent was kind of stuffy and packed. Why? Cause we’re girls and we don’t travel light! The tent was packed with our luggage etc. Despite the fact that it was raining outside, it was quite hot in the tent. So yeah, I did struggle for a bit...kept tossing and turning. Looking at Atira sleeping so soundly like a baby made me go green with envy...hmmphh! I managed to doze off around 2am. ZZzzz....

21st March 2009 (SATURDAY)
Rise and shine sleepy heads! I woke up at 5am because the alarm rang but everyone else seems to be sleeping still. So I decided to doze back...I woke up half an hour later to perform our Subuh prayers. After Subuh, we had to gather at this particular spot in our respective groups and get ready for the first activity of the day which was jogging. We had to do a little bit of stretching first. We jogged for about 10 minutes and then had our nasi lemak breakfast to replenish the calories we’ve just burned! -___-“

After breakfast, we took our bath and got ready for the next activity. Atira, Shahira and I were the last ones to take our baths as there were only 5 shower cubicles and about 20+ girls to share it with! How on earth do they expect us to get ready within 15minutes?! It’s simply ridiculous I tell you! And for that, we were late and received a good scolding from Irfan. Haha dude! You’ve got to understand our situation here! It’s not like we were late on purpose! LOL..just kidding. But it was alright cause Irfan wasn’t a pain in the neck like that certain someone (I shall not disclose any names or should I say name). *evil smirk*

Alright...back to the presentation... each group had to present their team’s logo, flag and also cheer. We named our group SAMANIAH which means 8 in Arab because there were 8 eight of us in the group. Our team’s logo was a picture of a puzzle with symbols resembling our team spirit, passion and togetherness. Last but not least...our team’s cheer! It goes like this....GO SAMANIAH! YOU’RE THE ONE! YOU’RE THE BEST! GO SAMANIAH! It was a lot of fun seeing other groups perform their cheers too! Although I think our team’s cheer is the best...Group 1’s @ Al-Quds’ cheer was also entertaining! Their cheer goes like this...TAKBIR! ALLAHUAKHBAR!! 3..4..SHUHH SHUHH...BAIK PUNYE! Kinda awesome don’t you think? Haha!

After the presentation, we played this game (too lazy to elaborate) and our group WON! GO SAMANIAH! We then got ready for the next activity on the agenda which was the religious talk by Ustaz Asrizal. At first I thought that the talk was going to be boring like any other religious talks but I was wrong! The talk was somehow interesting! I never knew that religious talks could be so interesting. I guess it all depends on how the person presents their talks. Anyhow, the talk was kind of longwinded…it felt as though the talk was never going to end! All of us had to sit cross-legged on the floor for 1 and a half hours!
I had leg cramps several times! OUCH! At last we were given a short break to have our lunch. After lunch, the talk then continued for about 30minutes or so. We all learned so much from the talk..didn’t we? hmm..

Performed our Zohor prayers as soon as the talk ended and got ready for the TREASURE HUNT! I absolutely love treasure hunts! But little did I know that it was going to drain every single energy I have left in my body. Before the treasure hunt started, we played this game to test our teamwork. We were all blindfolded and was told to make a perfect square using a piece of string. I’m not sure which group won though...but who cares?! Maybe some do...but not me! I couldn’t care less because it’s all about having fun and not winning or losing.

OK! Treasure hunt time! Each group was divided into two and were given a set of question papers to complete and a plastic bag to collect leaf samples.  And OFF WE GO!!! We had to run here and there to search for answers and also to collect leaf samples. It was bloody tiring! The treasure hunt lasted for 2 and a half hours. Our group came in second from last but we ended up getting 2nd place for the treasure hunt because we got most of the answers correct! Not bad huh? GO SAMANIAH!

My body started to ache after the treasure hunt but it was all worth it because I had a blast! We rested for awhile and then decided to take a bath! We really needed the bath! Huhu! We then had our lunch and performed our Asar prayers. While waiting for Maghrib, our group had a quick meeting about our group performance later that night. Performed our Maghrib prayers, had our dinner… we had a BARBEQUE DINNER! YUMMY!

After dinner, we then proceeded to the last activity for the day...the group performance! Our group was second last to perform. It was fun watching other groups perform! Their performance was really exciting and not to mention funny! I can’t remember the last time I laughed like a hyena! Our group’s sketch was quite good for something we prepared in the 11th hour! The main actors were the Terengganu boys, Hazwan and Shahir. Ahaha these two are so funny and wacky! You should listen to their Terengganu accent! After our group performed, it was then al-Quds’ turn to perform…the much awaited group to perform. Why? Because their sketch was properly written and directed by Shakir @ Ket and…was prepared many weeks in advance whereas other groups did a spontaneous act. In a nut shell, their performance deserved a standing ovation because everything felt so real! It was kind of scary but hey…that’s going to happen to all of us one day…DEATH! Everyone was silent throughout their play. *woooo*

As soon as we got everything wrapped up…we played this one last game…I think it was called “Chap Kali Chap”. I have never played this game before…and you know what? I really enjoyed playing it! It was bloody awesome I tell you! Oh and before they let us go, ustazah asked all of us to write down our dreams on a piece of paper, scrunch it up and throw it away! At first I was hesitant but ustazah told us to…so I did…WE ALL DID! But it was all a trick..damn..should have known…you don’t just throw away your dreams…you have to work hard to achieve it!

So after that, we were all dismissed. Shahira and I didn’t want to sleep because we wanted to make the day feel longer as we will all be going back tomorrow. Atira wanted to sleep but since Shahira and I planned not to…she tagged along because she didn’t want to sleep alone...(hehe pity Atira...sorry!). We and a few others went down to the campfire site to “lepak” and we talked for hours! I tried to stay awake but my eyelids were so heavy and I went back to the tent with Atira to catch some Zs leaving behind Shahira and the others. It was already 3am then. ZZZzzz…

22nd March 2009 (SUNDAY)
I woke up at 5am because we were going to have a Qiamullail session. Everyone looked like zombies! Mind you…I only slept for 2 hours! We had the Qiamullail and then waited for Subuh. While waiting, all of us dozed of at the “pondok”.  The girls were all still in their telekung and the guys with their sarongs..haha. We were all dead tired and our whole body was aching especially the legs! After Subuh, we gathered at one spot to have our morning exercise lead by Pn Nora. We did all this weird aerobics exercise moves and it looked as though we were line dancing because we had to line up in rows. And yes, it was fun! Wheehee!

We then took our bath and had breakfast. The next activity on the agenda was the jungle tracking. We had to hike up this hill that felt like it was going to take eternity to get up to the hanging bridge. It was so tiring. Which reminds me…I have to start exercising! Need to work on my stamina! I wasn’t really looking forward for the hanging bridge as I have this fear of heights! The hanging bridge was 150m long and it was a few hundred or thousand meters above sea level! Well maybe I exaggerated a bit but it was so high up! You have no slightest idea how I felt when I was on the hanging bridge. All I could think of was to get to the end of the bridge safely. My friends told me not to look down but I couldn’t resist to have a little peek as to how high up am I right now. Boy was I terrified! Atlas I arrived safely at the end of the bridge and wow wasn’t that an achievement! GO NABEEHAH! *pats own back*

We then continued our jungle tracking and head towards the next stopping point…the WATERFALL! As soon as we arrived at the waterfall…all I could think of was to jump straight into the river! We were all so excited! We spent about 20 minutes or so at the waterfall…splishing and splashing! It was FANTASTIC BOMBASTIC I TELL YOU! I love standing under the waterfall..feeling the gush of water falling on my back…massaging my back. Hmm just like Osim uPapa! The boys got a little bit carried away with the “rock slide” (I bet their butt is going hurt the next morning)…HAHA! We wanted to spend a bit longer there but we had to go back.

We arrived at our campsite…all soaking wet! We went straight to the shower, took our bath and had lunch. We then performed our Zohor prayers and had our very last activity before we go. It was the Heart to Heart slot where participants would volunteer to go up in front of everyone and talk about their experience and what they got out of the camp. The AJK then separated the girls from the boys and asked us to play “OOOH SOOM”…if both people shows their fist at each other, then they would have to give each other a hug. But if they show their palm…then you’d have to shake their hand. All the girls showed their fists…so we gave everyone a BIG HUG! WE also gave ustazah a BIG HUG! Hoho! Before we went off to pack our bags, we sang a song at the top of our lungs! We sang the song twice because most of us requested for an encore!  Aahh lovely!

We then packed our bags, undo the tent and got ready to go back home…home sweet home…I miss my parents, brothers (not really..just a bit) and my toilet (cangkung toilets are a big no no!)! The bus arrived and we all head back to Sunway University College. This time, everyone slept throughout the journey back! Can’t blame them, we were all pooped out and our body was aching so badly. We arrived in college safely at 6pm. All I can say is that the camp was AWESOME…I had a BLAST…I learned ALOT…made LOTS of new FRIENDS and I think I’ve insaf-ed a bit..hehe.

THE END! Till we meet again guys! :D I miss all of you already!!!

13th Malaysian General Election

Today marks a very important day for us Malaysians. People from all walks of life (more like those who are 21 and above, really.) come together to exercise their rights as a Malaysian citizen and vote for whomever represents their ideals and beliefs. Today, the 5th of May 2013 will also be a memorable date for me as I am eligible to vote for the first time. Therefore, as a first-time voter, I am determined to exercise my democratic rights!

Just like any other day, I woke up at 6am, performed my Subuh prayer, got ready and left the house at 7.50am. My mum and I had to cast our votes at a school in Kota Damansara whilst my dad had to vote in KL. When we reached the vicinity, the place was packed with people! There were rows of cars parked along the street and there were several booths put up by each political parties. For a first-timer, I must say it was quite a sight!

After going a few rounds around the area, we finally found a spot to park our car and it was quite a distance from the school we were voting at. Mum and I then walked towards the school only to find out that there was a massive queue! I swear it was about 1km long! We had to go all the way to the end of the line and guess what? We couldn't even see the school from where we were at! Luckily we came early as the line became longer as time goes by. I was not prepared for this at all! The next time I vote, I am sure to bring along a water bottle and a handheld fan.

All of us had to patiently wait in line but some skinny ass-ed B***H decided to cut in front of me. The guy behind me passed sarcastic remarks but that did no good. She was smiling away and not giving a care in the world. Only God knows what was running through my mind at the time. The things I wanted to do to her. Urgh.

In about 45 minutes, we found ourselves standing in front of the school's entrance. We were then given numbers and brought to our respective classrooms where we will cast our votes. To my surprise, there was another long queue and I had to wait an hour before I was called in to vote. When my turn came, I felt rather excited and nervous at the same time. I handed by ID, got my left index finger painted with blue indelible ink and was given 2 ballot papers. I then headed to the voting booth, selected my candidate of choice and placed the ballot papers into their respective boxes. There, I did it! I've done my part for my country. *pats back*

Mum was already waiting for me at the school's entrance. Dad called and asked us to meet up at Jaipur for some breakfast. Aahh, there's nothing better than chilling at a mamak restaurant with my fellow Malaysians over a glass of Horlicks O and a plate of Tosai! It was nice to see Malays, Indians and Chinese exchanging stories about their voting experience and proudly showing off their painted index finger. Haha!

I'm finally back home and all I can do now is pray for the best while patiently waiting for the election results to come in. I pray for a better nation and may this country fall in good hands! Amin.

50 Random Things About Me Tag!

As you all may probably NOT know, I am an avid reader of Ayeen Kadir's blog "Don't Harsh My Mellow". If you have not heard of her and you have a thing for fashion, beauty & anything girly for that matter, I strongly recommend that you check out her blog! In one of her recent posts, she did a 50 Random Things About Me Tag. She said, and I quote, "I TAG ALL OF YOU! If you have a blog, I tag you!". So I figured I might as well jump in and share some random things about me!

I really struggled thinking of 25 let alone 50! But nevertheless I persevered, racked my little brain and I got there in the end. So here goes...

1. I am obsessed with the color PINK!

2. I am terrified of cockroaches. Especially ones that fly!!!

3. I am a total foodie! I am not a glutton but an explorer of food okay?! I get weak in the knees when it comes to desserts!

4. I have low self-esteem issues. It's sad, I know (but I'm working on it!). Some might think I'm just craving for attention but it's not that, really.

5. I once went on a crash diet (as I wanted to be skinny so badly!) that lasted 6 months and lost 10 kilos. Raya came and BAMMM!! I'm back to square one. Urgh

6. I am a grammar/spelling nazi. I know my English is not that great but seriously, it annoys me to the core when someone uses your instead of you're and says, "Thats mean" instead of "That means". It gives a totally different meaning okay! *Reads every line over & over again just to make sure I do not make any grammatical errors 'cause that would be so embarrassing! But if you do see any errors, please correct me. I would be ever so grateful!*

7. I got my first phone when I was 15 years old.

8. Growing up, I've always wanted to become an Orthodontist ( a dentist who specializes in braces) but I ended up taking accountancy.

9. My first celebrity crush was and still is Jeremy Sumpter a.k.a Peter Pan.

10. One of my biggest pet peeves is people chewing with their mouth open. And then the sound that comes along with it. I can't stand it! I just can't.

11. I once had a pink fighting fish (Pinky) that my dad accidentally "killed". Long story short, he transfered Pinky into a bigger tank along with other fishes and a bigger fish ate her! My dad felt very guilty and sorry so he tried to look for another pink fighting fish to replace Pinky but there simply was no other! :'(

12. I fractured my collar bone when I was a baby and fractured my left leg when I was in Standard 3. My leg got caught when trying to get off a see saw and yes, the see saw fell on my leg. Didn't like using crutches then, so I hoped on one foot to get around. Hehe

13. I am afraid of heights! I hate cable cars for that matter. I would just sit quietly away from the windows, close my eyes and pray throughout the ride. Weird thing is, I love roller coasters! Though I'm pretty sure you can hear me screaming from space!

14. I obsess over my weight, even though I'm healthy.

15. I used to be ridiculed in school for being short. I was barely 5 feet tall till the age of 15. Now I am standing at 5 feet 4 inches tall. Yeah I'm not that tall but considered above average for Malaysian women.

16. Tears will come rolling down my cheeks whenever I laugh too hard (which is like most of the time!) and the occasional snort! *hides face*

17. I wore braces twice and yet my teeth aren't perfectly straight.

18. I was a high school runner. 2007 was definitely my year as I won a gold medal for every event I participated in. 5 gold medals in total, yo! Yeah, I know I may not have an athlete's physique now but I was pretty fit back in the days (I would like to believe so). Teehee

19. I love travelling and I wish to travel the world one day. InsyaAllah!

20. I started primary school at the age of 6 which is a year early.

21. I used to hate wearing makeup. Now, I cannot go a day without it!

22. I prefer wearing contact lenses than spectacles.

22. I have relatively skinny arms and fingers for someone who has got a big body frame.

23. I have yet to find a movie that can bring me to tears. Like bucket of tears! Yes, not even The Notebook can do the trick. Though, I teared a little when Cedric Diggory died in Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire. Weird, I know! But come on, why must the good looking ones die? Why?!

24. I have a thing for tall, chiseled-jaw, "jambu" guys. Like Channing Tatum, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jensen Ackles to name a few. *drools*

25. I am not a fan of noodles. Especially Laksa.

26. Papaya is probably my least favorite fruit.

27. The only novels I read are the ones written by Sophie Kinsella.

28. I listen to mainstream music.

29. I am a fan of Justin Bieber, One Direction, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez...Oh lets just say all the Disney singers!

30. I hate public toilets. Especially the ones without a bidet. Squat toilets are a big NO NO!

31. I hate the sound of my voice on tape, on the phone, on Skype, on WeChat!

32. I play the keyboard but I'm not very good at it.

33. Others are brilliant in studies, some are musically talented. I on the other hand am waiting for the day I discover my true talent. Something that I am really good at. Making tonnes of money, perhaps? Amin to that!

34. I have a blue belt in Taekwondo.

35. I am obsessed with anything and everything floral! Floral prints, floral scents...

36. I am bad at sports that requires the use of my hand. Like badminton, bowling, ping pong, shot put...

37. I hate it when people take pictures of me 'cause they turn out bad most of the time.

38. I used to collect Collecter's Item Barbie Dolls. I have a whole shelf of them. Heck, I used to love Barbie and I remember saying, "Omg, I don't know how people hate playing with Barbie dolls. I will never stop playing with them!". Don't get me wrong, I still love Barbie. I just don't play with them anymore.

39. I may be shy at first and sometimes people misconstrue me as being a snob, but once I'm comfortable with you, get ready for some random crazy s**t!

40. I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue.

41. If I were to choose a favorite flower, it would be Peonies!

42. I have acid reflux. It's definitely a nuisance for someone who loves to eat!

43. When I was younger, a can opener fell on my toe and sliced my toe nail in half. That is why my right toe nail is kind of deformed.

44. I have trypophobia (the fear of creepy clustered holes). It makes my skin crawl and a general feeling of discomfort. I get severely grossed out when I see holey pictures.

45. My favorite Disney Princess is Aurora from The Sleeping Beauty.

46. I basically live in my own little wonderland sometimes.

47. I love the sound and smell of rain.

48. I won't dangle any part of my body over the side of my bed at night because I think something is going to eat me!

49. My favorite genre of movies is comedy. Laughter really is the best medicine. Unless you are caught laughing for no apparent reason then yeah, you probably do need medication! White Chicks has got to be my top pick! I can watch it countless times and it never fails to make me laugh till my tummy hurts from start to finish.

50. I stutter sometimes when I talk.

So there you go! I hoped you learned something new about me, and if you didn't - you must know me pretty well! ;D

Music & Lyrics (Part 2)

"Because Of You" by Kelly Clarkson

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry in the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I try my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don't know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty
Because of you
I am afraid

Because of you
Because of you

Music & Lyrics (Part 1)

"Too Close" by Alex Clare

You know I'm not one to break promises,
I don't want to hurt you but I need to breathe.
At the end of it all, you're still my best friend,
But there's something inside that I need to release.
Which way is right, which way is wrong,
How do I say that I need to move on?
You know we're heading separate ways.

And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
There's nothing I can really say.
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more,
Got to be true to myself.
And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
So I'll be on my way.

You've given me more than I can return,
Yet there's oh so much that you deserve.
There's nothing to say, nothing to do.
I've nothing to give,
I must live without you.
You know we're heading separate ways.

And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
There's nothing I can really say.
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more,
Got to be true to myself.
And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
So I'll be on my way.

So I'll be on my way.

And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
There's nothing I can really say.
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more,
Got to be true to myself.

And it feels like I am just too close to love you,
So I'll be on my way.

So I'll be on my way.
So I'll be on my way.
